The Glencoe Club is currently seeking a Seasonal Full Time Horticulturalist to provide services that enhance the users’ enjoyment in the grounds areas of the Club. As a Horticulturalist you will provide a clean and safe environment and by providing assistance in the areas of grounds and facility maintenance throughout the Club.

 

Responsibilities:

Outdoor Grounds Maintenance

  • Planters are to be clean and well-maintained.
  • Fertilize as requested.
  • Water plants as requested.
  • Report damage or wear and tear of outdoor structures when noted
  • Remove any garbage from within the hedge, gardens, and grounds.

Garden flowers, shrubs, and trees

  • Water gardens, trees, and planters
  • Assist with spring and summer planting
  • Remove broken/torn or dry leaves and deadhead flowers.
  • Replace plants as necessary.
  • Remove weeds.
  • Contribute to long term grounds planning through research, feedback and collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • The ability to stand/walk/crouch/kneel for long periods
  • Willingness to work outdoors
  • Capable of lifting 5-10lbs on repetitive basis
  • Willingness and ability to learn plant designations (weed vs. desirable)
  • Working knowledge of general garden hand tools (trowel, shovel, rake, etc.)

Additional Details:

Please note that this position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be considered eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible

This is a seasonal full time position that reports to the Facilities Manager. The successful candidate may be required to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays, so a flexible schedule is required. The applicant will be required to wear (supplied) PPE—safety footwear, gloves, and safety glasses depending on the task.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a background check as well as Respect in the Workplace certification prior to commencing employment.
